Low Stock Alerts: Never Run Out of Inventory Again

A low stock alert is a push notification that fires when an item drops to the reorder point you set. You restock before the shelf is empty instead of after a customer walks away. For most small businesses, running out of a bestseller is the single most expensive inventory mistake there is, and it's also the most preventable one.

Why stockouts keep happening

Nobody forgets to reorder out of carelessness. They forget because the information lives on a shelf they didn't walk past that day. Move the signal from the shelf to your pocket and the problem mostly goes away. That's the job TRAIL's alerts do.

Set your minimum level in seconds

  1. Open any item in TRAIL.
  2. Set its Min Level, the quantity at which you want a warning.
  3. Done. When stock hits the number you get a push notification, and the item shows up in the dashboard's Low Stocks count with a red badge.

How to pick the right reorder point

The classic formula:

Min level = (average daily usage × lead time in days) + safety stock

  • Bestsellers: be generous. If you sell 3 a day and your supplier takes a week, a min level of 25 covers you through a late delivery.
  • Seasonal items: raise the level before peak season and lower it after.
  • Slow movers: set it to 1. You only need to know when the last one goes.

The dashboard tells you what needs attention

TRAIL's home screen shows one Low Stocks number. When it reads 0, there's nothing to do. When it reads 10, tapping it produces your shopping list, with a photo and current count for each flagged item. Reordering turns into a short Monday routine rather than a Friday emergency.

Alerts are better with a team

TRAIL supports up to 5 members, so the alert reaches whoever actually places the orders or does the supply run. Pair alerts with the inflow and outflow log and you can also see why an item keeps hitting its minimum. Sometimes it's steady sales. Sometimes it's one bulk order. Occasionally it's shrinkage, and now you have the receipts.

Frequently asked questions

What should I set my minimum stock level to?

Multiply average daily sales by your supplier's lead time in days, then add a small buffer. Selling 2 a day with a 5-day restock means a minimum level around 12 to 14.

Do low stock alerts work when the app is closed?

Yes. TRAIL sends push notifications, so the alert shows up on your lock screen whether or not the app is open.
